It was an extremely quiet night. Donald Grainger, seated in his study, began reading Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, first published in 1890, is one of Grainger’s favourite stories. There have been numerous television and film adaptations over the years. There has even been a graphic novel published.

The doorbell ringing, taking his attention away from the story, irritated Grainger. A gentleman standing outside at the door made Grainger curious. A bottle of wine, an Opus One, caught Grainger’s attention.

“This is a gift from your former professor,” the gentleman said. “Happy birthday.”

A drabble consists of exactly 100 words. The read time is short. Please remain with the article for at least 30 seconds. I would appreciate it if you would leave a comment, highlight anything of interest, and clap.
