D.C.I. Ed Hopkins, before completing his call with Detective Constable Simon Phillips, informed the detective constable that he needs Detective Sergeant Jen Lewis from the Police Station at Bridgnorth to give him a call at her earliest convenience.

“Yes, Sir,” having answered the call, Phillips said. “I will pass you message on.”

Phillips was not informed of the particulars. All he knew was that the D.C.I. needed a conversation with Lewis.

Later, showing up in Ironbridge, Lewis revealed she is to serve as a proxy for Ed in his continued absence. Why would the D.C.I. pull in an outside D.S.?
