D.C.I. Ed Hopkins, with a last sip, finished his coffee.

“Sam Beckett would have sought forgiveness,” Ed said to Detective Ed Greene. “But he had been cut off from those that make such decisions.”

Greene nodded as he finished his second coffee.

“You talk about Sam as if you’ve known him for years,” curious as to how the D.C.I. knows Beckett, Greene said.

Ed smiled slightly.

“I was Sam’s godfather,” Ed responded. “It was a great honour when Chief Superintendent Martin Beckett asked me.”

Ed, before the two detectives left the coffee shop, left a sizable tip on the table.
