Dr. Lilly Mayweather, with a glass of iced water in hand, was returning to her office when a student caught her attention.
“Dr. Mayweather,” Jonathan Standish said. “Do you have a moment?”
Mayweather, always looking to accommodate her students, paused before responding.
“What can I do for you?” noting a modicum of concern cross Standish’s face, Mayweather responded. “Is there something wrong?”
“I applied for a position with a research group,” Standish responded. “I was wondering if you might supply me with a character reference.”
“Sure. Not a problem,” Mayweather said with a smile. “You’re one of my better students.”
