Good question. I am not entirely sure I have a concrete answer.

I spent a lot of time, when at school, reading the classics, Latin and Ancient Greek were required courses.

Sociology, Religious Education, and Philosophy were also required courses. I think these course, combined, gave me a deeper understanding of the world around me.

I suppose, to a certain degree, my interest in period drama and police procedurals might play a factor in understanding the human condition.
