I can see what you mean. I liked the British version because of it’s intentionally terrible characters. It wasn’t trying to make people like the characters. Consequently, the lack of effort in this regard, made people like them. I can’t say the same for the American version. The showrunners wanted the audience to like the characters. It didn’t work, at least for me it didn’t.
