I don't know if you know this... Back in the day, centuries back, criminals (always men) in England would find themselves frequently left in stocks over night. Drunk men heading home, often ones not getting any from their wives, would take advantage of the situation. Many mornings, unsurprisingly, the criminal would be found with blood stained trousers around the ankles.
