I recall, a few years ago, a fellow Medium writer messaged me privately and asked if there was any chance I could possibly fund a month subscription for him.

He was on what the British call Universal Credit. It's a benefit the government give people. It's not much. It barely covers anything substantial.

I covered him for a year rather than a single month. I also insisted it be a gift rather than a loan. It is what it is. That's just the way I am.
