“A John Mills is on line one for you,” D.C. Simon Phillips, in addressing D.C.I. Ed Hopkins, said.

“Great!” Ed responded with an annoyed tone.

Mills is a marvellous person. Ed and Mills have known each other for decades. The problem, not that Mills would ever admit it, Ed has moved on with his life. Mills has certain expectations of Ed the D.C.I. left behind years ago.

Ed has not been the person Mills talks about for at least 20 years. Mills’ inability to accept Ed for the person he is has caused frustration to build in Ironbridge’s senior detective.

A drabble consists of exactly 100 words. It is never less than 100 words. Nor is it more than 100 words. The read time is short. It is typically 30 seconds to a minute or so… Please remain with the article for at least 30 seconds. Leave a comment, highlight anything of interest, and clap.
