Time passed slowly as I sat in the holding cell. It gave me something I had not contemplated. It was an opportunity for me to reflect upon “days of future past.” What was the unspoken understanding between the desk sergeant and the constable that caused them to smile?

The desk sergeant’s eyes were leaden with sleep. He had not seen a good night’s sleep in years. His complexion, dull grey colour, spoke volumes about his wellbeing. He was clearly in need of a doctor.

The constable’s leaden complexion was no better. “Peas in a pod” feels like an appropriate phrase.
