The fifth season of the BBC police crime procedural drama “Line of Duty” returned to our television screens Sunday, 31 Mar. 2019.

Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, as seen with previous seasons, continue to play Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, Detective Inspector Kate Fleming and Superintendent Ted Hastings, respectively.

The current season, with the next instalment in the six-episode run scheduled Sunday, 7 Apr. 2019, finds the AC-12 team continuing to investigate possible police corruption and law enforcement involvement with OCG (Organised Crime Groups).

The opening fifth season episode, directed by John Strickland, sees the proverbial shit hitting the fan when a police convoy transporting a significant amount of seized narcotics is hijacked. During the incident, three armed officers are shot and killed.

Suspecting undercover police involvement in the hijacking, AC-12 opens an investigation into the incident.

During their preliminary investigations of the hijacking, rather than the surviving police officer being involved, the AC-12 team discovered UCO Detective Sergeant John Corbett is not only the undercover officer, he has been radio-silent for some significant time.
