A New Life in a New Country…

The United States and the United Kingdom, as everyone knows, are countries divided by much more than an ocean. The commonly spoken language, even though it is similar in both countries, remains distinctly different.

There are words in both the U.S. and the U.K. that, despite them being used in both countries, have hugely different meanings associated with them. Whilst squash in the U.S. is a vegetable, on the opposite side of the pond, it is a drink concentrate that people add water to before consuming.

Fag is a common one. In the U.K. as people might know, the word fag is commonly associated with cigarette. Referencing the term faggot, in the U.K., there is a dish made from beef that is associated with the word.

In the U.S., noting how things aren’t always the same on both sides of the Atlantic, fag and faggot are considered by many people derogatory terms. These terms are linked to gay people and homosexuality.

Matthew James Fletcher, because he likes to, frequently refers to himself as being either a faggot or a fag. He’s fine with it because that’s the way he personally sees himself.
