Jacob “Rusty” Rust, enjoying his morning coffee, was occupying a café window seat when it all went down. Two men, with clear intent, enter the premises. Rusty saw it as a professional hit.
Moments later, elsewhere, Detectives Randall and Hopkirk were heading to 1PP when a radio call came in.
“Officer needs assistance,” on the radio, a voice said. “All available units converge on Smith’s Bodega & Café.”
“Randall and Hopkirk on route,” taking the call, Hopkirk said.
Bloodbath. Five people dead. A police officer, in a seriously critical condition, was taken to Mount Sinai. It’s too early to call.
