John Davies, the Merrythought CEO, sat in his office. News of the company’s demise was weighing heavily on his mind. He wasn’t entirely sure how he was going to break the troubling news to his employees.
All 175 employees, including office, factory floor and janitorial personnel, were gathered in the car park. Davies had no choice but to tell them the truth.
“My great grandfather started something special when he established Merrythought. The company,” Davies said without a hint of ambiguity, “is going into liquidation. Everyone will receive one month of pay. I’m afraid this is the end. We’re closed.”
