There is obviously something seriously wrong with the gas gauge.

Two-thirds of the way into town, 70 miles from home, the gas gauge suddenly reads full. Thinking I had perhaps read the gauge wrong in my early morning stupor, I shake my head and continue driving.

There is obviously something seriously wrong with the gas gauge. I wouldn't trust it. OK. I'm not a driver, but still, I still wouldn't trust something as faulty as that.
