Rain had been lashing against the windows all morning. It was becoming a bit of a distraction. Dr. Phillipa Sterling was sitting behind her desk when Dr. Sam Beckett entered.

“Dr. Beckett,” said Sterling. “I didn’t know we had an appointment.”

“We don’t, responded Beckett before sitting opposite his psychiatrist. “But that doesn’t mean I’m not facing a seriously troubling life-changing issue.”

Sterling understood where Beckett was coming from. His life fell apart when he discovered he couldn’t return home.

“Life, if I can’t return home, isn’t worth living,” said Beckett. “It’s just the way I think. Everyone knows that.”
