The industrial nature of the area, noting the numerous factories bellowing out smoke day in, day out, had not been lost on me. The thing that had puzzled me, something that really didn’t fit, was the police station.
Why is there a police station in the heart of what is essentially a blue-collar working men’s district?
Constable George Harris, the policeman who had brought me to the station, made his presence felt in the holding cell block.
“I am to take you to The Nunnery,” the constable said with a smile. “Desk sergeant’s orders.”
