Trigger Warning: Depression…

Whispers, as he tossed and turned in his bed, plagued Raymond Carter’s unbalanced mind. Trying to drown them out with relaxing music, as Carter found, did absolutely nothing. There was nothing he could do.

Unable to properly sleep, heading to the kitchen, Carter took from his refrigerator several oranges.

“Fresh orange juice,” Carter thought to himself. “You can’t get better than freshly squeezed orange juice.”

Carter, after adding fresh juice and a few cubes of ice to his glass, went to the study. The leaves rustling outside the window, as he sipped his drink, were relaxing. He was soon asleep.

Depression comes in many forms and, as we have seen, can leave people feeling there is no hope. Hopelessness invariably leads to despair. You are not alone.

If you or someone you know are having thought of self harm, and you’re in the UK, call the Samaritans Helpline Number on 116–123 or the emergency services on 999 or 911. Curiously, as an emergency services number, 911 does work in the UK.
